Remembering Paiʻea

Written by Blaine Fergerstrom
Thursday, 11 June 2009
The Kamehameha statue in the U.S. Capitol was decked with lei at its new location in the lobby of Statuary Hall last Sunday. The occasion was marked by speeches, hula, mele and dignitaries from across the country.

Happy Kamehameha Day from the
Office of Hawaiian Affairs

As we celebrate Kamehameha Day, may we all take a moment to reflect on the man, Kamehameha I, Paiʻea, the first ruler of all the Hawaiian Islands, the first ruler of the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi and his contributions. It is through his vision and efforts that we live in Hawaiʻi Nei.

If you have the day off from work, enjoy your time of rest, pausing to thank Kamehameha I, The Lonely One.

If you are required to work today, mahalo nui for doing the job that must be done, always, so that others may enjoy their time off.
